Azerbaijanis (according to professor Yagub Mahmudov)

AZERBAİJANİS
    Azerbaijanis are the second greatest Turkic people in the world after Anatolian Turks. The Azerbaijani people are the main and the most ancient aboriginal inhabitants of the Azerbaijan Republic (North Azerbaijan) and South Azerbaijan (the north-west provinces of the Iran Islamic Republic).
    Azerbaijanis belong to Oghuz branch of Turkic groups of the Altay people. They call themselves Azerbaijanis. In different stages of history they were called “Turks”, “Azerbaijani Turks” or “Caucasian Tatars”, “Azeri Tatars” as well.
Azerbaijanis who live in South Azerbaijan and in other regions of Iran call themselves “Turks” up to present.
They speak Azerbaijani which belong to Oghuz branch of Turkic group of Altai language family. They bare relation to the caspi (khazar) type of the white (European) race. They are Moslems.
Although in the ethno-origin of Azerbaijanis mainly Kuties, Lullabies, Turuks (Turukkues), Hurries, Kimmers, Iskits (Skits, Skifs), Saks, Huns, Bulgars, Khazars, Barsils, Pechenegs, Suvars, Gipchags, and other Turkic and non-Turkic ethnoses took part, but Oghuz Turks (Aghguoyunlu, Garagoyunlu, Seljugi and others) played a decisive role in this process...
At present besides their native land – the Azerbaijan Republic (North Azerbaijan) and South Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijanis as aborigine population live compact in different regions of Iran, Iraq, Western Anatolia, Georgia (mainly in the south-east of the country, in the historical territory of Borchaly district), Daghistan and other places as well, where ther have been living since the ancient times.

This city played great role in Azerbaijan history  as well as in Middle East. Tabriz city was the capital of many big states formed in Middle East. During the rules ofHulakid, Aghkoyunlu, Safevid and other states Tabriz was considered as the main city and capital. But Tabriz khanate was not so strong, and couldn't play its role in the unification of Azerbaijan. So, in the first quarter of XIX century Azerbaijan was the territory where Gajars dynasty and Russian empire were fighting. There occured two Russian - Iranian wars, after that historical territories of Azerbaijan was divided into two parts. 31st December - The Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis

Historical territory of Azerbaijan covers huge areas including in itself Darband city and Great Caucasus range in the North, Easteran Anatolia, Eastern Georgia in the West, Sultaniyye - Hamadan - Zanjan in the South and Caspian Sea in the East. These territories were inhabitated by different tribes during history and formatted Azerbaijani nation. Nowadays, more than 50 million Azerbaijanis live in the borders of mentioned above territories and outside of homeland. Azerbaijanis made extraordinary commitments the world human advancement living in the region of Azerbaijan for a large number of years. Wars, upheavals, military clashes, social-political procedures on the planet destructed Azerbaijan, a portion of the Azerbaijanis asked to leave their properties, expelled, left their nation with the reason to discover a work, and to get training and settled in various nations.
